B. Coole Designs > Embroidery > VTag Instuctions

Please note that this tutorial is written on the very most basic user level. If you have a better tutorial to suggest, I would love to hear about it.

If you haven’t played with these yet, you are in for a lot of fun.  The folks at MS will be happy to show you a lot of things you can do with it for profit, but I want to show you something you can do for fun.

Even if you don’t own one of those fancy phones, you can still have a VTag for sending your information to people that do have one.

You need to do three things to do for this to work:

1.      Get the reader if you have a web capable phone

2.     Sign up for a Windows Live account (If you use MSN Messenger, you already have one)

3.     Create the V-Card

4.     Send it to me for Embroidery

#1

Get the reader.

(If you don’t have a highfalutin’ phone, just skip this section.)

Go online to the Microsoft Tag page and follow the download instructions.

OR

Look up “Tag Reader” in your apps marketplace from your phone.

OR

Go to http://gettag.mobi on your phone.

#3

Create a VCard.

Go to the Microsoft Tag page, click on Tag Manager.  You may have to do some signing up to get into the system.  It is fairly painless.

Click “Create a Tag”

Tag Title:  This is a name for this card, for your own use only.

Tag Type: You want vCard.

Note: This is for your use and will not show in your VCard.

Start Date & End Date: Don’t bother with these unless you want the card to be available for a specific period of time.

VCard Type: Click “Specify Details”.  Fill in the spaces as you like, but remember this information will go out to anyone that scans your VTag.

Fill in those items you want to have on your VCard.

Remember this information will be available to anyone that reads your VTag.

Ignore the Password.  This is if you want to limit uploads to people that you give the password to. (File this in the back of your brain for when you want to limit who gets your info.)

Hit Save

Click “Render”

For my purposes, the following settings will work best:

File Format: JPEG

Tag Size: 2”

Click “Render”

Save your file where ever you like in your computer.

Your tag should look like this.

This is the sample we just created.
