Books,
Kits &
Supplies
Here are some of the resources that I use in sewing and dyeing.
Yes, they are the very same, cut from the same bolt, off my book
shelf, and the same dyes. I find them the easiest to use with
natural fibers, especially cotton.
Check out my informational page on Tie Dye.
Procion Cold Water
Dyes....$5
per ounce.
These are the very same dyes I use to blend my colors. Like matching
any recipe, I can't tell you how to match my colors exactly, but
you will come out with exciting results.
Use for tie dye, garment dye, batik, and fabric printing. These
dyes are low impact on the environment. The instructions are so easy to follow.
Make sure to order one cup of soda ash for
each bottle of dye powder.

Books
-
Tie Dye, Back by Popular Demand $11.95 Virginia Glesser.
- Virginia is possibly the world's formost tie dye artist. She shares in this book some of the techniques that she pioneered in the 60's in California and on The Farm in the 70s. She is as brilliant at teaching tiedye as she is at dying.

the ancient art form of using wax and dye on fabric to create
beautiful paintings, wall hangings, and wearable art.

in the dyeing of natural fibers. Easy to follow instructions and
illustrations for dying yarns and fabrics. Designed especially
for use with Procion dyes.

with thickened dyes rather than paints. It is packed with ideas
& experiments. Designed for use with Procion Dyes.
- How to make Ukrainian Easter Eggs $3.50,
Surmach
- This is one of
those obscure little treasures that I hunt for. Besides the wonderful
instruction on making these beautiful eggs, it has history, symbolism,
and black and white photos to work from.
Kits & Paint Sets
-
Tie Dye Kits $22.95
- This kit contains 3 pre measured dyes,
4 bottles, fixer, rubber gloves, rubber bands, applicator bottles,
and easy instructions....everything you need to dye up to 15 adult
T shirts. Since there is no heating or measuring involved, this
is an excellent project for home school or smallgroup use. WOW!
-
Tie Dye Class $59.95
- Similar to the kit above, this kit contains enough to do roughly 30 shirts.
- Dye Sticks/set of 7 $2.25
- These crayon like sticks are the easiest fabric art for adults or small children. I have used them for quick and easy projects, and for more advanced work. The color sets with heat (an iron works best.) Repeat the process in several layers to attain the color intensity you desire.
Supplies
- Soda Ash
- At the moment I am not shipping Soda Ash. It is a white powder, and I do not want to cause any problems at the post office with an in advertant leak. You can get soda ash at any pool or spa supply store. (It is what they use to balance the pH in the water.) Or you can use washing soda, available at many markets (especially older ones, the kind likely to have Mason canning jars and canning supplies.)
- Sodium Alginate SH $4.75/2 oz
- A thickener used in cotton
and hemp fabric painting and batik.
- Urea $2.50 Lb
- A humectant that keeps the fiber damp longer
to allow dye to ripen to an intense color.
- Gutta Resist $6.75
- A colorless, true rubber based resist
for professional and amateur use in painting silk or cotton. Holds
a very crisp line. Leave it on the fabric when done, or dry clean
to remove.
- Batik Wax $9.50/lb
- A combination of microcrystalline and
paraffin wax, especially formulated to create the beautiful crackle
batik.

-
Applicator Bottle 79¢

SEW WHAT? Fabric by the yard
These are the fabrics that I use to make all of the clothing in
the catalog. I suggest laundering before home use, because cotton
will shrink.
The fabrics range from low impact to certified organic. Certified
Organic fabric takes time and money to develop, and there are
many ways for ordinary cotton to be marketed as organic. As a
micro business I do not have the resources to properly monitor
my sources, so I do not label any of the fabrics as Certified
Organic. I use the term "low impact." This means that
the fabric has been manufactured in a way that uses as few chemicals
as possible. As someone that is chemically sensitive, I sell only
the fabric that I CAN HANDLE WITH NO REACTIONS.
Prepared for Dying (PFD): Not treated with sizing or formaldehyde.
This is the very minimum that I can handle without reaction.
Unbleached: Meets standards for PFD, and has not been bleached
with environmentally hazardous Chlorine bleach. I always try to
get unbleached when I can.
