Sizes and Colors and Laundry

Sizes

I hate this part. Sizes vary, bodies vary, manufactures vary, fabric and sewing lots vary. How you wash things varies from household to household. Your perception of your size can vary. Most of the designs are flexible in sizing. For instance the Squash Blossom Skirt can fit one to two sizes bigger or smaller.

These are sizes after shrinking. During the dye process I wash the garment in very hot water, and dry in a hot drier. I suppose you could shrink them further, but you are going to have to work at it. (White items have not yet shrunk. If you don't wear or soil a garment, you may wash and dry a white garment to check size and still return it if you need to. Please wash and dry without detergents or drier sheets as this will affect it's dyability.)

Baby sizes: Sizes are equivalent to most standard sizes. Sizes run really small. This is because Americans all think that bigger is better. "My three month old wears an 18 month size. He must be really superior."

Limited Stock

You know some times you just get tired of making the same old thing.  The items listed as limited stock are still available in most sizes and colors, but I am not going to be sewing them on a regular basis.....Well OK if you really really really want one, and orders are kind of slow, you might be able to talk me into making it for you, but it won't be on my high priority list.

Dye loads vary. Fabrics absorb the dye differently.

Laundering Instructions

I recommend machine washing in warm or cool, and drying in the drier. I am a single mother and I work full time. I don't have time to fuss with fancy washing procedures, and I suspect that most of my customers are in similar circumstances.

Use plain, un-fancy soap, or no soap at all. Some people have found that the "natural" cleaners cause fading, especially with the red colors. I think this is because these products often use borax, which ruins the fix of the colors.

The colors will retain their intensity, but will share their lovely hue with other clothing for the first few washing. Use common sense when washing dark or bright colors with your other laundry. It is not a good idea to wash Red with your best white dress shirts. If you are ordering for a kid that leaks, or if you are planning to run through the sprinklers, or sweat a lot, you SHOULD pre-wash the garment in the washer and dry in the dryer to prevent the colors from running onto other clothes (or Grandma's new sofa.)

DO NOT soak in vinegar. Let me repeat that: DO NOT soak in vinegar. It strips out the fixing agent in the dyes.

If you should have bleed overs onto other garments, don't panic. Wash the garment in cold wash a couple of times without using soap or washing additives.
